Overview
Cooper Marine & Timberlands (CMT), headquartered in Mobile, is in the business of producing wood chips for sale in both domestic
and international markets. The production process involves the conversion of round wood (primarily hardwood) to chips at one of four
chip mill sites in Alabama and Mississippi. That round wood resource comes in the form of CMT two year prepaid timber deed contracts
and chip mill gate wood acquired from 3rd Parties
The four chip mills are located in Aliceville; Roanoke; Warrior, Alabama; and Bay Springs, Mississippi. Their individual annual production
capacities range from 200,000 to 500,000 tons. Once the mills produce the chips and the bark bi-product (bio-mass), the primary mode of
transportation is barging. The aggregate annual CMT wood chip volume is normally 1,200,000 tons (std dev 125k). Chip sales include both
domestic paper companies as well as export to Japan and Korea through the CMT Terminal at the Port of Mobile.
The CMT boat & barge division includes 13 owned push boats (with a maximum 3200 HP) and a fleet of 146 barges. The boat and barges
primarily work the Tombigbee River system servicing a large variety of bulk customer needs including steel, wood chips, coal, pig iron,
scrap, limestone, cement, ores and alloys.
