The Cooper Group provides shipyard facilities and vessel repair and fabrication through Blakeley Boatworks, Cooper/Wilkins Welding & Machine Co. and Southeastern Propeller Services, all located in Mobile, Alabama.
Blakeley Boatworks, Inc., one of the Gulf Coast’s leading vessel repair facilities, is located on the east side of the Mobile River, directly across from the Alabama State Port Authority and downtown Mobile, AL. Facilities include four working bays and one warehouse bay with 10-ton overhead cranes, carpenter, electrical and maintenance shops and are equipped with 200 amp power and piped for industrial gases and liquids.
With a maximum lift capacity of 1700 long tons, Blakeley’s floating dry dock is 180 feet long (with a 16 foot apron) 64 feet wide between the wing walls and 22 feet in height above the main deck with twelve 10-inch pumps for dewatering. Blakeley’s 600 metric ton travelift is capable of lifting and moving vessels 40 feet wide and 200 feet in length over our 26 acre facility.
Cooper-Wilkins Welding &Machine Co., formed in 1956 and located adjacent to the Alabama State Docks, was initially formed as a “job shop” for both welding and machine work. It remains the same today. Southeastern Propeller Services has been catering to the propeller needs of the recreational and commercial boating industries of the Gulf Coast since 1976. Located across from Blakeley Boatworks, its 15,000+ square-foot repair shop with additional covered storage offers an array of propeller services including welding, skeg repair, shaft machining/straightening, bushing replacement and propeller boring.
